Charges filed in dog's killing

Charges were filed Friday in Rice County District Court in the case of a missing dog whose body was found in Cody-Phelps Lake near Lonsdale.

Anton Steven Metzenhuber, 34, of New Prague was charged with torture or cruelty to an animal resulting in death or great bodily harm, theft and receiving stolen property. The most serious of the charges, torture or cruelty to animals, has a maximum penalty of two years in jail and/or a $5,000 fine.
